Work within the wood last year resulted in a beautiful display of blue bells this spring. Working groups cleared laurel and other similarly invasive and unwanted plants from the wood. Woodland management in Stocks Wood: unfortunately, the lock on the gate at the entrance to the wood had been damaged and it was not possible to gain access. However, a number of volunteers carried out some tree maintenace on the grass area bordering Maple Road. Two Hazel trees were coppiced, these were in fact reduced to stumps, which appears somewhat brutal but will in fact increase the tree life. (Gloria Gain provided the 'workers' with plenty of pie & chips for lunch!).
