The Shenley Green Centre

The Shenley Green Centre was conceived by local people and built in 1965 as a youth club. Today, the facilities continue to serve the local community - both young and old. It now plays a much wider role than it was originally designed, housing many groups and clubs; elderly groups, youth groups, day centre, lunch clubs, sequence dancing, fitness groups, slimming groups, education classes, tap dancing, chess group for people with disabilities and many more.

Youth clubs provide a drop in facility for young people to mix with their peers as well as interact with trained youth workers to discuss issues relevant to them.

Drama work builds confidence and provides an avenue to explore personal and social issues.

New facilities require a further £500,000
Today, forty years on, a group of young people similar to the centre founders are responding to the needs of a changing community.
Out of school club: The centre provides child care services in support of parents who wish to return to work. An increase in the numbers of young people continues and the use of the building for the community becomes ever wider.

Junior club: This club provides play opportunities for children which is supported voluntarily by parents and young people.
Play schemes: During school holidays the centre is the home of play schemes which provide a fun environment for children to play and learn.
Future services: Over the next two years through a process of consultation with parents, residents and young people a plan will be developed for the new Shenley Green Centre to meet the needs of the community in the future.
Such as, an IT room, a workshop, rooms for lifelong learning, development of a stage area, new kitchen, accessible toilets, games area and a community room.
Next: Fund raising activities and events are planned over the coming months to help raise the substantial monies required to secure the future of Shenley Green Centre.

When complete the new Centre will be transformed, with a striking new external appearance and will be completely refurbished inside which will serve local people well into the 21st century. Please support future fund raising activities with the aim to build a new Centre for your community.
