|
|
On Saturday (17th December '05) a number of us from 'The Friends of Bournville Carillon' worked very hard (in our own time, at our own expense and in VERY cold weather) to stage the Bournville 'Traditional Christmas event.
On Tuesday (20th December '05) at about 10am I received a 'phone call from Amanda Leavey at Bournville Village Trust to say that there had been a vandalism attack on 'The Rest House' where our Visitor Centre is accommodated. Unfortunately I was unable to attend as I have a contractor working here on my house. I asked Joy and Trevor Workman to attend and they subsequently reported back that some windows on the side of the 'Rest House' had been broken and that a hole had been punched through which allowed a large display unit to be pushed over, smashing many of the items on it.
Before moving on to a question for our Councillors and MP to address I would like to place on record our appreciation of the prompt response to, and assistance provided by, staff of Bournville Village Trust in dealing with this unfortunate incident. It helped us greatly to get the Visitor Centre up and running again.
Now for the question to our MP and Councillors.
You are all well aware of the problems that have beset Bournville Green for some time, and you are equally well aware that the measures that you have put in place to supposedly deal with the problems have been an abject failure. Any trader who does not provide an adequates ervice to his customer is expected to put the matter right or give a refund. Since our Council are unable to put the matter o security on Bournville Green right we seek your permission to instruct all members of the 'Friends of Bournville Carillon' who are resident in Birmingham to pay an agreed proportion of their Council Tax for one month each year from now on to the 'Friends' in order that we may employ a private security firm to carry out the task of protection that the Police so clearly cannot do for us.
We also wish to ask our MP and Councillors if they want the 'Friends of Bournville Carillon' to continue with their work?. Next year is the centenary of Bournville Carillon and we have lots of exciting things planned that will involve our volunteers in a tremendous amount of hard work. If our efforts are of no value to you (as the level of practical support and protection we currently receive tends to suggest) then please say so IN CLEAR AND UNEQUIVOCAL TERMS and we will happily disband and cause you no further difficulty. We all have busy lives to lead and promoting Bournville and Bournville Carillon is not an essential task for any of us.
PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE THIS EMAIL AS YOU DID WITH MY PREVIOUS ONE -WE EXPECT A RESPONSE!
If anyone rading this wishes to discuss its contents further, they can contact me by email, peterjordan@dsl.pipex.com, or by 'phone to 0121-459-5184

I was disgusted to hear the the Rest House on Bournville Village Green had been vandalised. It is a great shame the the younger generation have nothing better to do than smash other peoples property. The goverment should think about bringing the army call up situation back, at
least,if you went in bad you never came out like it. |
