Presented by Consultants to BVT, Scott Wilson, at the beginning of November;
Quote:
After more than 100 years since George Cadbury had the vision to create Bournville, creating a balance of urban and rural living along the lines of the garden city movement - the convenience of the town the benefits of the countryside but without the drawbacks of either.

Bournville Village Trust acknowledges that the heritage is important but feels that the estate should be dynamic and open to change. There is a concern that the estates landscape is in need of upgrading and renewal if it is to remain in its rightful position as an international example of where people wish to live.

The master plan is essentially to produce a "vision for the future". The plan has a bold timetable of five years, the masterplan is first step (concept ideas).

I am glad BVT see the need to improve this area but the proposal is not in keeping with the natural landscape and is extremely ugly. As a Berberry Close resident, I do not wish to overlook huge concrete pillars and high level security wires that will give me the impression of being imprisoned within my own home. I would like any artificial or security features to be hidden from view or blended into the landscape. The 'hedge' does need controlling but, in my opinion, it should be trimmed to the lowest height that obliterates the school building from resident's view. The dirt track would be greatly improved by applying a tarmac surface. Sad

its an interesting idea, but measures would need to be put in place to ensure it doesn't become an evening hang out area, causing noise nuisance and anti social behaviour.

I think it is great to examine again the layout of Bournville: much has changed in 100 years. Traffic is clearly a major consideration. Encouraging more walking, cycling and lowering noise pollution are essential. Pathways could be a major feature -along and around all the waterways, ponds tec. Consider how to create friendly crossings of Bristol road, Bournville lane and Linden Road. Get local residents on board ASAP
